Christantus Uche Fuels Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite entering their first-ever continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable result that all but secures them a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
Another three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal straight entry to the last 16, especially after a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for several Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season proved no match against a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward finish.
Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official waved away the protests.
The formerArsenal striker did not have wait long to get his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, showing there is still room for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
